DGT

As Indonesia’s tax authority, The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) held a very crucial position in country’s development. DGT contributes about 78 percent of Indonesia’s budget that makes DGT in highlight position for the country’s sustainability of development. Therefore DGT needs to work effectively and efficiently.
To perform its task more effectively DGT needs to have strong position in the government structure. In my opinion, it will be better if DGT becomes a government body. By becoming a government body, the DGT will be able to manage its needs easier.
By being an independent body, there will be shorter bureaucracy in proposing the budget and to propose the need of human resources. DGT will be able to plan its operational needs. There will be more effective planning of human resources, because DGT knows what kind of human resources needed. And also the budget will be able to be easier adjusted.
In the future DGT needs to have very strong and organized IT resources. DGT must go for electronic services (e-service) to maximize its work and to enhance paperless report to support green development. Having strong IT resources will become such a waste when the human resources are not in the same line with development of IT resources. DGT must build the capacity of its staff to keep up with the pace of IT changes and also keep up with the globalization.
I am also thinking about the harmony between DGT and the media. as public sector, DGT need s to make good relation with the press so DGT can be asier commiuicate the policies that have been made. And I also imagine that there will be some kind of media training about those policies. so the media will have sufficient information about tax regulation. Thus, there will be  no more speculation or 'irresponsible opinion" about tax and the sytem of tax.  It is necessary to educate the press about tax, so whenever there is a misleading statement from irresponsible party the press will stand behind the DGT.
I believe DGT will need to have its own in-house lawyer to give the protection to the tax officer. This protection will make the tax officers feel more comfortable in doing their job. Although the law of tax administration says that the tax officers cannot be charged on the lawsuit in performing their duty, there still lawsuits charged on them, although they already perform their duty according to the law. DGT needs to save guard its assets, and human resources are its most important asset.
